I feel incredibly fortunate to have attended UBC for the last 5 years, thanks to the support of the Veazey Scholarship Foundation. The confidence that comes with being a Veazey Scholar is something that has given me courage throughout my degree, and has pushed me to want to study and engage in work that will leave a positive impact in the lives of others. Geography has allowed me to study complex social, environmental, political and spatial relationships — to understand how the local connects to the global, and how the macro connects to the micro. The ACAM program introduced me to a tight knit group of faculty and students interested in thinking about the dynamics of Asian migration, the impacts of racialization on Asian communities, and possibilities for inter-generational dialogue and community building. Attending UBC also brought me to study on exchange in South Korea, as well as to Hong Kong and Kaiping on a UBC-led global seminar. Additionally, beyond academics, I have had the opportunity to make life-long friendships and memories along the way.
Lilin Zhang (Britannia Community)
After finishing my undergraduate studies in Kinesiology, I also completed my Masters of Management (Business) at UBC as well. I am currently working on the business side of a biotechnology company. We are devoting almost all of our resources to help create with our partners a vaccine for Covid-19. It definitely is very exciting and a once in a lifetime opportunity (hopefully) to be in this industry during this time and I am really grateful for the position I am in. I undoubtedly know that I would not be here without the support of the Veazey Scholarship.
